Four former University of Montana standouts were recently named by the Montana Amateur Athletic Union as among the eight finalists for Montana’s Little Sullivan Award. The finalists were nominated in the areas of leadership, character and sportsmanship in addition to athletic achievements.

Montana was represented by former football players Colin Dow (Billings) and Colt Anderson (Butte), former’s men’s basketball player Jordan Hasquet (Missoula) and former women’s basketball player Sonya Rogers (Lewistown).

The other men’s finalist is Tyrel Todd (Bozeman), a three-time all-America wrestler at Michigan.

The other women’s finalists are Alira Carpenter (Lewistown), a 2,000-point scorer on the MSU Billings women’s basketball team, Elisabeth Driscoll (Bozeman), a standout on the Montana State cross country and track and field teams, and Colleen Miller (Missoula), a three-time MVP of the Maine swim team.

Dow and Anderson were senior-class members of the 2008 Grizzly football team that finished 14-2 and advanced to the Football Championship Subdivision national championship game. Both were Walter Camp Foundation, Associated Press and Sports Network all-Americans.

Hasquet, a second team All-Big Sky Conference selection last winter as a senior, led the Grizzly basketball team to a 17-12 record and a second-place tie in the Big Sky at 11-5. He finished his career ranked seventh in career scoring with 1,396 points and eighth in career rebounding with 718 boards.

Rogers, who earned first team All-Big Sky Conference honors last winter as a senior, was part of the 28-5 Lady Griz team that won the regular-season Big Sky championship and advanced to the program’s 18th NCAA tournament. Rogers finished her career with 1,320 points, No. 10 in Montana history.

The male and female Little Sullivan Award winners will be announced at a banquet on Saturday, May 2, at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center.
