Sophomore Mari Castello has been named April's MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for her play at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles for the UM women's tennis team. Castello tallied a 3-3 singles record and 4-2 doubles mark for the Griz, who played seven matches in March.

Montana opened the month with a pair of matches at the Boise State Invitational. The Griz fell 7-0 at No. 75 BSU before rebounding to win 6-1 over Lewis-Clark State the following day. Castello won 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1) at No. 2 singles over Jamie Chan. Castello, playing at No. 1 doubles with freshman Liz Walker, also won 8-6 over LCSC's Rachel Moorhead and Mei Fong.

After taking a week off, Montana returned home to face rival Montana State in the Grizzlies' 2006 Big Sky Conference opener. Castello won a straight-set contest at No. 2 singles over MSU's Nicole Luetolf, 7-5, 6-1. Castello and Walker joined forces to win 8-4 over Luetolf and Nuria Lozano at No. 1 doubles.

Up next for the Griz women was the three-match UC Irvine Invitational. In UM's 6-1 loss to San Francisco, Castello and Walker registered another win atop the doubles lineup, 8-4 over USF's Camille Pamart and Laranjinha de Macedo.

Against host team UC Irvine, Castello and Walker were once again the Grizzlies' only point-scorers. UM's top doubles tandem won its fourth straight match in a 9-8 victory over UCI's Inna Agababian and Jayme Hu.

Castello, who did not play in UM's 6-1 loss at CS Northridge on March 30, closed the month in the 4-3 loss to San Jose State two days earlier. She rallied back from a first-set loss to win 0-6, 6-0, 6-3 over Courtney Koenigsfeld at No. 2 singles.
