Krista Swanson has been named MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for her achievements in March. Swanson carried a stroke average of 77.0 and was the Grizzlies' low finisher in two of their three tournaments.
Swanson, a sophomore from Forest Lake, Minn., opened the spring season
with a school-record-tying performance at Montana State's Bobcat
Desert Classic March 6-8. Swanson's second-round, three-under-par
69 tied the single-round record held by Jenny Chappell (1998 Weber
State Invitational).
Swanson ended the tourney tied for third after tallying a three-round
221 (78-69-74). Montana finished seventh with a team score of 902
at the par 72, 6,050-yard Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz..
Swanson and the Grizzlies competed at the Marshall Lady Herd-El Diablo
Intercollegiate in Citrus
Springs, Fla., March 21-22. Swanson notched rounds of 79, 85 and
79 on her way to a 243 (+27) and a tie for 33rd. Montana finished
in 10th place with a 977 team total at the par 72, 5,942-yard El
Diablo Golf and Country Club.
Swanson capped the month with a first-place finish at the Richmond Spider Spring Invitational March 28-29. Swanson tallied rounds of 77 and 75 to finish with an eight-over-par 152 and individual medalist honors at The Legacy Golf Club in Brandenton, Fla. Montana finished the 36-hole tournament in second with a 637 team score, 10 strokes behind team champion Maryland.
Swanson, who currently boasts a 78.8 stroke average, is one of three
Grizzlies to have qualified for all seven tournaments for the 2004-05
