Kamarr Davis has been named the
MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for his athletic
achievements in March. Davis, from Milwaukee, Wis., averaged
a team-high 16.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg in leading the Montana men's
basketball team to a 3-1 record and an NCAA tournament appearance.
Davis opened the month with a 15-point, six-rebound performance against Eastern Washington in the Big Sky Conference tournament quarterfinals at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. The 6-7 senior forward was 5-of-11 from the field and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe in the 58-48 win, which was the Grizzlies' third of the season over the Eagles.
Next for Davis and the Grizzlies was a trip to Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Ore., for a league semifinal matchup against rival Montana State. Davis, who was limited to 22 minutes of action because of foul trouble, contributed six points and seven rebounds in the 79-67 win which advanced Montana to the Big Sky Conference tournament championship game.
In the title game against Weber State, Davis exploded for 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He was 7-of-8 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds to lead Montana to its first trip to the NCAA tournament since the 2001-02 season.
Davis saved one of his best performances for last against No. 1 seed Washington in the NCAA tournament first-round game in Boise, Idaho. Davis led a scrappy Griz team as he scored a game-high 24 points (11-of-18 from the field) and grabbed 11 boards in the 88-77 loss to the Huskies in front of a national television audience.
Davis, who earned first team All-Big Sky Conference honors for the second straight year, led the Grizzlies this season in scoring (15.2 ppg), rebounding (6.1 rpg) and field goals made (129). |
