Jas Gill has been named the MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for his performance at the 2005 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pocatello, Idaho. Gill, a native of Abbotsford, B.C., won individual titles in both the high jump and the triple jump to lead the Grizzlies to a fourth-place team finish, their third-best indoor team finish in the last 18 years.

Gill, who entered the BSC championships with the league's highest seed of 7-0.5, opened the meet on Friday, Feb. 25, by winning the high jump. His height of 7-1.75 matched his own school record and surpassed the NCAA provisional mark of 7-1.

It was Gill's third indoor high jump title in as many years.

Gill's dominance continued on Saturday, Feb. 26, when he blew away the field in the triple jump. Gill entered the event as the top seed, having jumped 47-7.5 at the UM-MSU Dual in January. He proceeded to win the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 49-3.75, finishing over 17 inches ahead of his nearest competitor.

The two titles give Gill six Big Sky Conference individual championships heading into his junior outdoor season. He has three indoor high jump titles, two outdoor high jump titles and one indoor triple jump title.

Gill also earned all-conference honors in the outdoor triple jump in 2004, finishing fourth in the event at the league meet. He placed fifth in the event at the outdoor championships as a freshman in 2003.
