Senior Kevin Criswell has been named MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for his athletic achievements in January. Criswell averaged 17.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in helping the Grizzlies to a 6-1 record in the first half of Big Sky Conference play.
Criswell scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and two steals in UM’s 80-76 home win over Idaho State. He followed that performance up with a 15-point, eight-rebound effort in the Grizzlies’ 71-65 home win over Weber State.
The 6-foot-2 guard from Colstrip, Mont., tallied 10 points, three boards and a block in an 80-64 road win over Montana State.
Next up was the grueling road swing through Northern Arizona and Sacramento State. Criswell made 6-of-9 3-pointers en route to game-high 24 points but it wasn’t enough as the Grizzlies fell 83-80 to the Lumberjacks.
That would be the one and only defeat of the month as the Griz bounced back with a 73-71 road win over the Hornets. In an intense contest it was UM's senior guard that would come through in the clutch. Criswell drove down the lane and converted an uncontested layup with 7.2 seconds remaining for the game-winner. He finished the game with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
After a two-week stint on the road, Montana returned home for match-ups with Portland State and Eastern Washington. Criswell scored a game-best 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field to pace the Griz to a 98-77 trouncing of the Vikings. In UM’s 78-72 win over EWU, Criswell tallied 15 points, seven boards, two assists and a steal.
Criswell enters February having scored in double figures in 15 consecutive games (dating back to his four points in a Nov. 29 home win over Utah Valley State).
