Sophomore guard Mandy Morales has been named MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for her dominant play on the Lady Griz basketball team in December. Morales earned an unprecedented five consecutive Big Sky Conference Player of the Week accolades in helping Montana to a perfect 8-0 record in the final month of 2006.

Morales, a 5-8 combo guard from Billings, Mont., opened December with 29 points, five assists, four steals and two blocks in the Lady Griz' 74-54 home win over Portland. She followed that up with a 24-point, nine-assist, seven-rebound effort in an 86-56 win over Utah State.

Morales then took her show to the road, leading Montana to four straight victories away from home. Morales went for 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field (6-of-12 on 3-pointers) in UM's 71-60 win at Washington State. She hit for 29 points while adding seven assists and four steals in an 85-66 win at Idaho.

Morales nearly recorded a triple-double in Montana's 87-73 win at Cal State Northridge. Morales had 25 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds while also tallying two steals.

Just when you thought she was done, Morales busted out a career-best 35-point scoring effort at Santa Clara. She made 8-of-12 from the field, while going a perfect 18-for-18 on free throws, in a 98-72 win over the Broncos. She scored 27 of her points in the second half.

Morales averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds in wins over Canisius and Wyoming to earn MVP honors at the Lady Griz Holiday Classic, UM's final two games of December. She went 7-for-13 (.538) from 3-point range and 12-for-12 (1.000) from the line and totaling 13 assists against just two turnovers.
