Freshman guard Mandy Morales has been named MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for her athletic acheivements in December. Morales returned from an injury to lead the Lady Griz to seven consecutive victories after they started the year 3-2 in her absence.

Morales, from Billings, Mont., had a slow start to the year tallying just three points and five assists in UM's 58-57 home win over Long Beach State. It didn't take long for Morales to get comfortable on the court as she averaged 20 points and six rebounds per game over Montana's next three contests.

In UM's 82-77 win over Santa Clara, Morales went for 18 points and five rebounds. She established career-highs across the stat sheet with 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals in the Lady Griz' 83-74 home win over Miami. Morales added 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in Montana's 72-60 road win over Gonzaga. She earned conference player of the week honors for her play against the trio of non-conference foes.

Morales put out another well-rounded effort in the Lady Griz' 58-50 home win over Idaho, contributing 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

At the Lady Griz Holiday Inn Classic, Morales earned all-tournament recognition after averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per contest. UM won its 23rd championship in the 26 years of the event.

The 5-foot-8 guard recorded 11 points, six assists and a new career-high with five steals in a 79-43 blowout win over New Orleans. She scored a game-high 19 points to go along with three assists and two steals in the 70-52 win over UNC Asheville in the title game.
