Junior Dan Carpenter has been named MontanaGrizzlies.com Student-Athlete of the Month for his play on the Griz football team in September. Carpenter went 6-for-6 on field goals, 12-for-12 on point after attempts and carried a 43.9 yards per punt average while serving as both place kicker and punter for UM.

Carpenter, from Helena, Mont., made his only point after attempt and punted five times for a 43.8 yards-per-punt average in UM's 41-7 loss at Iowa.

Carpenter returned to Missoula to play his most versatile game as a Grizzly in UM's 36-7 home win over South Dakota State. In addition to breaking a school record going 5-for-5 on field goals, he went 3-for-3 on point after attempts, completed a 14-yard pass to convert a fake punt into a first down, ran for 45 yards on another fake-punt conversion and recorded two touchbacks on kickoffs.

For his play against SDSU, Carpenter was named The Sports Network's and the Big Sky Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the Grizzlies' 59-14 rout of Sacramento State, Carpenter went 1-for-1 on field goals, 5-for-5 on point after attempts, tallied three kickoff touchbacks and punted once for 47 yards.

Through the first three games of 2006 Carpenter ranks sixth in UM history with 229 career points.
