Houle and the Grizzlies opened 2005 with wins over Fairfield, Rhode Island and Maine at the Maine Tournament. Houle, a junior from Ste. Anne du Sault, Quebec, averaged five kills and five digs per game to lead Montana. For her performance in the opening weekend Houle was named to the all-tournament team. She was also recognized as the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Volleyball Update and Big Sky Conference Player of the Week.

Houle continued her strong play at the Iowa State Invitational where she led the Grizzlies to a 2-2 record. Houle was named to the all-tournament team, her second in two tournaments. She averaged 5.2 kills, 4.4 digs and 0.6 blocks for the weekend which earned her league player of the week honors for the second consecutive week.

Last year's Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year averaged 14.6 kills and 15 digs per game in UM's next non-conference tournament, the Montana Invitational. After wins over Gonzaga and UC Davis the Griz fell to New Mexico in the title match.

Houle and the Griz defeated Carroll College before going 2-1 at the Denver Invitational with wins over Northern Illinois and Portland.

Houle and Montana have reached double-figure wins for the first time in a season since 2000.
