Joyce, a sophomore from Aurora, Colo., opened the season with a team-high nine tackles in the Grizzlies 55-0 romp over Fort Lewis College on Sept. 3. One week later Joyce again registered nine tackles, this time against the I-A Oregon Ducks on their turf in Autzen Stadium. Of Joyce's nine tackles, five were of the solo variety. The Griz lost 47-14, but Joyce and the Griz defense held the Duck running attack to 87 yards on 38 carries and forced UO to settle for six field goals. Joyce and the Grizzly defense pitched their second shutout in three games with a 7-0 home win over South Dakota State on Sept. 17. Joyce contributed six tackles in the Grizzlies second win of the season. .
