Head coach Joanne Steele is in her 12th year at The University of Montana. Steele was hired as the assistant women's golf coach in 1995 then appointed the head coach in 1996 replacing Kris Nord.

A graduate of Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida, Steele earned four letters in golf from 1990-1993. While at Jacksonville, Steele placed second at the Sun Belt Conference Championship in 1993 and fourth in 1992. She was also a three-year team captain and a Sun Belt all-conference selection. Steele received her B.A. in sociology with a minor in psychology. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the President's List from 1990-93. In addition, Steele received Academic All-American honors from 1990-1993 for her work in the classroom.

Steele joined the UM staff in 1995, coming from Helena, Montana, where she was the assistant golf professional at the Green Meadow Country Club. She also served in that capacity at the Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Florida.

Joanne is married to Cory Steele. Joanne and Cory have two daughters, Alexis , and Sydnie.
