Grizzlies fall to B.C. 69-56 in NCAA second round
The University of Montana men's basketball team challenged 4th-seeded Boston College early, trailing by just 2 points at the half, but B.C. ultimately pulled away to a 69-56 final score in a NCAA Tournament second-round game at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Eagles had four players in double figures, led by Craig Smith's 22 points and 16 rebounds. Jordan Hasquet had a team-high 13 points for UM. B.C. advances to the Minneapolis Regional semifinals in Minneapolis. UM closes out the season at 24-7.

Montana set to battle No. 4 Boston College
Montana already verified its controversial 12th-seed in the 2006 NCAA tournament with a dominating win over 5th-seeded Nevada. Montana has little if any time to celebrate, however, as its next opponent, 4th-seeded Boston College, should provide the Grizzlies with a challenge of a completely different kind. Griz lead start to finish, top Wolf Pack 87-79
Montana never trailed as the Grizzlies upset the Nevada Wolf Pack 87-79 in the first round of the NCAA Championships in Salt Lake City Thursday. Montana got a balanced offensive attack, with four Griz in double figures, led by Andrew Strait's 22. Virgil Matthews had 20, Kevin Criswell posted 18, and Jordan Hasquet put up 16. Nevada's Marcelus Kemp paced the Wolf Pack with 34 points, and Nick Fazekas had double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. UM advances to the NCAA second round to face Boston College Saturday.

Montana partakes in NCAA Media Day
Montana spent Wednesday with a 40-minute press conference and a 40-minute open practice at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Griz ran a very light practice at the tourney venue as a part of their day-before preparation. UM also participated in a short practice at Salt Lake Community College. Grizzlies depart for Salt Lake City
Montana participated in a two-hour practice Tuesday at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. The Grizzlies departed from Missoula International Airport in the early afternoon and reported to their NCAA Tournament headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Coaches and players resume tournament responsibilities Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. (MST) when they participate in the mandatory Media Day. UM’s practice on Wednesday is from 12:45 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. and is open to the public.

Griz set to dance with Wolf Pack
The Griz are going dancing again, but this time there isn’t going to be a No. 1 seed at the end of the tunnel. Jaws dropped and hopes soared Sunday afternoon when Montana was announced as the 12th seed in the Minneapolis region of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. The seeding matches the Griz (23-6) against the 5th-seeded Nevada (27-5) Thursday at 1 pm.
